Posting Photos

How to post photos to Isaac’s Spotters Club

The simple way…

Revised again 1 April, this solution should work :-)

Ok, you just want to post a photo from your computer to a comment on this blog:

  1. Go to http://tinypic.com/
  2. Use the ‘browse’ box to find the photo you want on your computer
  3. I suggest you use the resize to… “message board (640×480)” setting
  4. Click the big green ‘Upload Now’ button
  5. After a short while the image will be uploaded and the screen will update to the ‘share this’ page
  6. Click on the last yellow box [called ‘Direct Link for Layouts‘] this will copy the “image location code” that you need
  7. Now, on your comment, right underneath the ‘add comment button, there’s a link that says “You can add images to your comment by clicking here.”  Click on it !
  8. Paste the link you copied before into the pop up box and click the ‘ok’ button.
  9. You’re done. The photo will now be displayed when you click ‘add comment’

Other options..

The method detailed above is quick and easy, but you might want more control over your photos and be able to share them in other ways with other people, here’s how…

First you need to have the photos stored somewhere on-line. If you already have a place where you keep your images on-line such as a photo sharing site [ and maybe even an on-line print service] then it should be easy for you add photos to the blog by linking to your photos. Most of the photo sharing sites make this a simple process, usually just clicking on a ‘share this’ button and copying the code that is provided, then paste that code into your comment and the image will be displayed.

Here are some well known, free, photo sharing sites you might like to use [with a link to the 'sharing' help file in brackets]:

Update

For Picasaweb users:

If you’re using picasaweb; when you go to the page showing the photo you want to post there’s a ‘link to this photo’ option on the right hand side, when you click on this some options drop down:

  • Set the size you want [300 to 700px is good]
  • Then copy the code from the “Embed Image” box.
  • That’s the code to paste into the comment on the spotters club site. The image will appear when you click “add comment”.

For Flickr users:

If you’re using flickr; when you go to the page showing the photo you want to post there’s a series of options along the top of the image,

  • Click on the one that says; “all sizes
  • Choose the size you want [300-700px is good - usually 'medium'] from the “Available Sizes” list
  • Below the photo there are two boxes, you need to copy the link in box 1. Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:
  • That’s the code to paste into the comment on the spotters club site. The image will appear when you click “add comment”.

Lastly…

There is another option, if you’re keen to get involved with this site on a regular basis then we can set you up with a username and password for our photo gallery . You can then upload photos to the gallery, which would be cool. To post these into comments, you’ll need to use the second method detailed above.

If you’re really keen, you can also ask to become an author, with a username and password that will let you log in to the blog and write your own posts.
